The roller shutters differ in type and material:
PVC Shutters and Reinforced Shutters in PVC and fiberglass are among the cheapest on sale on Protegendo.it. There are numerous advantages to these types of shutters: the cost and the thermal insulation properties that PVC offers.
What experts recommend is to use only light-colored roller shutters, as darker roller shutters are subject to deterioration and warping due to prolonged exposure to the sun, especially for large ones.
Insulated aluminum roller shutters , large hole or micro-perforated roller shutters and the micro-perforated insulated aluminum shutter are among the most used and light, with an excellent quality-price ratio, and with many other qualities: they do not discolor, do not bow and have an excellent duration. The slats are filled with expanded polyurethane foam.
Energy-saving roller shutters and Energy-saving roller shutters with large hole are among the most innovative models. Their peculiarities are the external profile in aluminum, the internal profile in PVC and the inside of the slats with high-density expanded polyurethane insulation. The particular hooking system between the two faces of the slat interrupts the thermal conductivity of the metal, creating a cut in the thermal transmittance between the external and internal environment.
Even the insulated, anti-intrusion steel armored shutters have slats filled with expanded polyurethane foam.
The Anti-intrusion armored aluminum shutters guarantee reliability and protection of your family environment against external intrusions. The slats are made of extruded aluminum with greater thickness and weight compared to standard profiles.

How to determine the dimensions of the roller shutter to buy.
Depending on the type of intervention that needs to be performed, it is possible to proceed in different ways:
- Replacement of existing roller shutter:
It will be sufficient to select the product corresponding to the existing roller shutter, detect the size of the old roller shutter and fill in the configuration form for the new shutter:
- Replacement or new installation of the roller shutter using existing sliding guides:
For the width of the roller shutter, in reference to the guides that you intend to use, you must apply the due tolerances. The old existing guides can be used as long as they are in good condition and have at least 16.5mm of internal width for the sliding of the roller shutter.
The correct indication of the measurements is of fundamental importance in the management of the order and subsequently for the installation of the roller shutters.
In general, there are two types of installation of the sliding guides for roller shutters and therefore two cases to consider:
-Recessed guides;
- Sight guides.
In both cases, the measurements to be entered in Step 1 of the roller shutter purchase page are:
- The finished width of the shutter.
- The finished height of the roller shutter.
Below we will show you how to take measurements depending on the type of pre-existing guide:
Case 1 - Existing recessed guides:
WIDTH : To calculate the width of the roller shutter to be purchased, you need to measure the distance from the inside of the right sliding guide to the inside of the left sliding guide and then subtract 0.8 cm (0.4 cm + 0.4 cm) of tolerance from this measurement.

HEIGHT : To calculate the height of the roller shutter to purchase, you need to measure the height of the window opening from the floor to the bottom of the box and then add 20 cm (this is needed for rolling it up inside the box).

++++
Case 2 - Existing visible guides (external):
WIDTH : To calculate the width of the roller shutter to purchase, you need to measure the window opening from wall to wall (from marble to marble) and then subtract 0.8 cm (0.4 cm + 0.4 cm) of tolerance from this measurement.

HEIGHT : To calculate the height of the roller shutter to purchase, you need to measure the height of the window opening from the floor to the bottom of the box and then add 20 cm (this is needed for rolling it up inside the box).

NB The measurements of the new roller shutter can be obtained from the previous roller shutter.
- For the width of the roller shutter, it is recommended to measure the width of a slat in good condition and not bowed located inside the box.
- For the height of the roller shutter, it is recommended to measure the height of the entire roller shutter with the slots closed and it is recommended to place the roller shutter on the floor for a correct measurement (for the height, you can also measure the distance from the marble underneath to the lower part of the box and add +20cm)

- Replacement or new installation of roller shutter + sliding guides:
When using a metal roller shutter (aluminium, steel, extruded aluminium, energy saving) with galvanised guides, during movement and in the presence of wind, the ends of the slats wear out and produce noise as they slide along the guides.
To avoid this we recommend purchasing aluminum guides with brushes.
If you do not want to replace the old galvanized iron guides (if they are in good condition) you can purchase the protected roller shutters that have protective side caps (Cap available only for aluminium roller shutters profile 12x55mm ST - HD, 14x55mm HD and steel roller shutters ST and HD) that wrap around the ends of each slat, protecting them from wear due to rubbing against the galvanized guides and reducing the noise caused by the wind (basically they do the same job as wind brushes). The protected cap is only suitable if the existing guides have an internal width of at least 16.5-17 mm and are not excessively damaged. The protected cap will increase the thickness of the slats at the ends by approximately 2 mm. If the 12x55mm profile is chosen with the addition of the protected cap, the profile will become approximately 14x55mm. If the 14x55mm profile is chosen with the addition of the protected cap, the profile will become approximately 16x55mm.
It is recommended to leave a little space inside the guides, if your guide has 17mm internally it is better to use the 12x55mm profile with protected cap. If your guide has 20mm internally you can use both profiles, 12x55mm and 14x55mm
NB PVC roller shutters have a hook inside the slat itself located on one side to prevent the slats from sliding freely, while other types of roller shutters have lateral caps to hold the slats in place.
Note . We recommend purchasing the guides by measuring the height of the light compartment from the marble underneath to the lower part of the box and adding a tolerance of +10 cm. The upper end of the guide that flows into the box is supplied with the cuts for the invitation that must be widened during installation to facilitate the sliding of the roller shutter inside the guides.

ATTENTION :
If the light compartment is not equipped with a predisposition for the box and you do not want to buy an aluminum box (box + guides + roller shutter + motor or belt operating kit), you can install the roller shutter with exposed roller. This Link shows how to do it.
INFORMATION :
If you already have the roller shutter and want to purchase overlapping guides, you will first need to identify the type of guide suitable for sliding the roller shutter and then make sure that by inserting the new guide overlapping the old guide there is enough space to prevent the roller shutter from rubbing against the bottom of the guide and getting stuck.
By inserting an overlapping guide (example guide A28, A16, A14) the width will be reduced by approximately 5/6 mm, 3 mm per side.
We generally recommend applying a tolerance of 8 mm, 4 mm per side, so before proceeding with the replacement of the guides, it is necessary to check that there is sufficient space from the bottom of the guide to the beginning of the roller shutter profile in order to avoid the roller shutter blocking during movement when inserting the new guide.
In case you have a rusty galvanized guide with the following measurements:
- external width 2.2cm
- internal width 1.8cm
- depth: 2cm
The A28 guide can be inserted in overlap

Order form and quotes.
Click on the box that shows the type of roller shutter you want to buy. On the roller shutter purchase page you can indicate the measurements and configure the roller shutter according to your needs by following the steps below:
Step 1: Indicate the dimensions of the roller shutter
Enter the finished measurements in centimeters (width and height) of the roller shutter to be purchased. Finished measurements mean the total measurements of the product that will be made, including any side caps (PVC does not have side caps). The roller shutters will be supplied with slotted slats, including holes for the stop caps and stop caps (to prevent the roller shutter from accessing the inside of the box), straps and hooks (to connect them to the roller).
Step 2: Choose the roller shutter profile
To choose the profile of the roller shutter to order (if you have to replace a pre-existing roller shutter) you have to measure the thickness of a slat of the pre-existing roller shutter to be replaced and also the height without considering the connecting hook that joins the slats. The slat is measured as shown in the following images: Image 1 Image 2
If you need to replace both the roller shutter and the guides , to define the width of the roller shutter to purchase you must carefully read the images above as they indicate the calculation (LIGHT MEASUREMENT + or - tolerance) to be carried out for each guide to find out the width of the roller shutter that must be inserted in Step 1. Also consider the roller shutter profiles compatible with the chosen guide that are shown at the bottom left of each image to avoid purchasing a roller shutter that is not compatible with the chosen guide. When ordering, the roller shutter must present the finished measurements (width and height) with which it will be made, including the tolerances. The guides must be added to the cart together with the roller shutters. It is repeated that the tolerances are your responsibility, we will not apply any tolerance.
Step 3 or 4 (in reference to the selected roller shutter) : Operation Type
Choose the color of the roller shutter If you are not sure which color to buy, before ordering the roller shutters, we recommend purchasing the kit and color charts, as in the absence of a color chart we will not be able to accept complaints if the color differs from your other roller shutters.
Step 4 or 5 (depending on the selected roller shutter)
- Type of maneuver Select the type of maneuver (from a computer, if you move the mouse cursor over the kit, a pop-up will open that will list the components included in that kit)
By selecting a normal motor rigging kit, the kit will include:
- n.1 Motor without emergency operation suitable for moving the purchased roller shutter;
- n.1 galvanized roller, with a size equal to the width of the roller shutter +25cm;
- n.1 60mm reinforced PVC cap;
- n.1 Support with bearing;
- n.1 Engine support.
By selecting a belt drive kit, the kit will include:
- n.1 galvanized roller, with a size equal to the width of the roller shutter +25cm;
- n.1 60mm PVC cap;
- n.2 Support with bearing;
- n.1 Wall-mounted box with reel, strap and plate.
NB
Where applicable, it is possible to select the advanced features of the roller shutter (for example, the cap in aluminium roller shutters, the armouring of the slats in PVC roller shutters)
Step 5 or 6 (depending on the selected roller shutter) : Choose the terminal
Select the roller shutter terminal and, if necessary, the use of anti-lifting safety bolts applied inside the slats or in the terminal.
